Enjoy healthy life to the fullest, says new Knox doctor

8/25/2015 (Knox, IN) - Community members in Knox and surrounding Starke County will be able to see a new physician in town starting August 31. Sabrina Beecham, MD, is a primary care doctor who takes a particular interest in helping her patients live well-rounded, healthy lives.

"It's important to take care of sickness, but I also enjoy helping my patients stay well and enjoy life to the fullest," Beecham said. The key to that, she added, is having an annual exam with a trusted provider, eating well, exercising, and identifying any possible health conditions through screenings so they can be addressed right away. Beecham received her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Miami, and her medical degree from the American University of Antigua. She completed a residency in family medicine in Grand Blanc Michigan at Genesys Regional Medical Center. She is interested in the health topics that definitely apply to Knox and surrounding communities, such as diabetes prevention, healthy weight management, high blood pressure, pregnancy care, women's health and dermatology (skin care).

"I look forward to helping our community recognize the importance of preventive medicine milestones. Everyone should be listening to their bodies and making sure that they address common health issues at certain points in life, before they become dangerous or problematic. For example, helping our children eat healthy meals and snacks will reduce the chances that they are overweight or diabetic as teens or adults. Having regular mammograms and doing breast self exams to screen for breast cancer gives a woman the best chance at detecting the disease in its earliest stages when it is most curable. Beecham lives in Knox. When she is not seeing patients in the office, she enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures and foods, ballet, and going to the beach.
