Free breast, cervical cancer screenings available
3/18/2016
3/18/2016 (Northern Indiana) - Qualifying women are able to have free breast and cervical cancer screenings this month, offered by the healthcare professionals of La Porte and Starke hospitals, and La Porte Physician Network. The screenings, which include a clinical breast exam and a PAP test, are for women between the ages of 20-65, who have not had a PAP test in one or more years, have not had a hysterectomy, and have not been diagnosed with cervical or breast cancer. Results are mailed directly to those who are screened, and women are encouraged to share results with their primary care providers for follow-up. Those who do not have a doctor can visit iuhealth.org/laporte and click on Find A Doctor.
The screenings will take place from 8 - 11 a.m., March 22 in Knox; Noon - 2 p.m., March 22 in New Carlisle; 1-4 p.m., March 23 in Knox; 2-6 p.m., March 24 in La Porte; and 8-10 a.m., March 25 in New Carlisle. All times listed are Central Standard Time. Preregistration is required by calling 219.325.7648.
Information will also be available about breast and cervical health, and other steps women can take to prevent or detect cancer early. The screening program is made possible by the La Porte Hospital Foundation and the Starke Health Fund.
