Starke receives Aim High award

6/2/2015 (Knox, IN) - The Starke County Youth Club awarded Indiana University Health Starke Hospital the Aim High award for providing a top pledge of $5,000 during the club's annual radio-thon. In all, the campaign raised $41,000 for the club.
"It's important to us to support the Starke County Youth Club's work in our communities, because they are an important proponent of childhood learning and development. This contribution is a good reflection of our mission to improve the health of our patients and communities, and we are happy to be able to give back to the community in this way," said Craig Felty, president of IU Health Starke Hospital and chief nursing office of IU Health Starke and La Porte hospitals. Janet Gillon, director of patient care services at IU Health Starke Hospital, also supports the club by serving on its board of directors.
The Starke County Youth Club (SCYC) is committed to supporting children and families with projects that include four after-school sites, a summer program, and a recreational basketball league. The Club environment encourages a life-long love of learning. Key areas of focus include education, enrichment, recreation/socialization, and community service. Activities and services include homework assistance, cultural exposure, fine arts, recreation, information about healthy lifestyle choices, interaction with peers, constructive use of leisure time, commitment to community and service. Children in Starke County in kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to join SCYC. The registration fee for SCYC after-school is $15 per child per year. Scholarships are available for families that cannot afford the fee.
